Sketches In Thyme Challenge #368

Hi everybody!  It's the 14th of the month, and that means I'm up on the blog over at Sketches In Thyme.   For this sketch, I decided to use my favorite recent pic of my son:
And here's the awesome sketch, designed by Brenshevia:
I started out with every intention of keeping with the simplicity of the staggered paper strips.  But....we all know how things don't end up exactly as we plan, right?  The angled strips on my layout were inspired by the scraps I had in my scrap bin.  I sat on the living room floor the other night, purging little bits & pieces & seeing just what papers I had in there that have long been forgotten.  I ended up sorting by color....kind of.....and ended up with pieces of really old Basic Grey, Simple Stories, Pinkfresh Studios, Kaisercraft (LOVE those Mister Fox viewfinders!!), Bella Blvd and Echo Park.  Whew!  I had to list them all because I couldn't believe how they all blended so well together!
One of the scraps I had was already angled, so I just cut the rest of my strips that way. Some finishing touches were Pinkfresh Studios puffy stickers, a fussy-cut camera from the EP paper, flair from my fave Etsy store A Flair for Buttons, some AC Thickers for my title & a bit of machine stitching.

Hope you are as inspired by this sketch as I was!  We'd love to see what YOU can do with this sketch, too....hop on over to Sketches In Thyme & join in on the fun! Hope to see you there!

Tuesday Morning Sketches #497

There's another fun card sketch up on the blog at Tuesday Morning Sketches:
At first glance it might seem simple, but I thought the sketch offered the possibility for some fun layering & details, here's my take on it:
I've really been trying to turn to my scraps and "leftovers" such as die cut packs and sticker sheets, at least to find something to incorporate into my projects & use up that stash!  On this card, all of the paper was from my scrap bin...the striped background is from Shimelle's Go Now Go line and the piece of green is from a Photoplay pet line. I don't know where that random piece of graph paper came from LOL!  The floral die cut is from Photoplay's The Daily Grind & the heart sticker is from Simple Stories' Life in Color.  With a CTMH sentiment stamp & a few gems this sketch really came to life, I'm sure I'll keep it to use again!

Sketch N Scrap Card Challenge #143

Hi everyone! There's a brand new card sketch challenge up on the Sketch N Scrap blog today!  Here's the fantastic sketch, designed by Heather Hall:
And here's my take on it:

The flower and sentiment are from a Fancy Pants die cut pack.  I used some random scraps out of my scrap bin for the patterned papers & my Wonky Stitched Circle die.  I even dug my corner rounder out for this one, haven't used it in ages.  Think I'll keep it out on my desk to remind me to use it more often LOL

Hope you find this sketch as inspirational as I did, and that you come on over to Sketch N Scrap to play along. Hope to see you there!

Sketch N Scrap Challenge #174

Hi everybody! The first of the month means there's a brand new sketch challenge up on the Sketch N Scrap blog, and it is a FUN one!  I used it to make a travel page with some random pics I took on our NYC vacay:
And here's the awesome sketch, designed by sketch designer Lisa Hidy:
Full disclosure....this is a redo of a page I already scrapped, that I was 100% hands down not happy with LOL.  I set it aside a while back and thought I'd work on it another day.  I knew I wanted to use some of the Simple Stories Travel Notes line (LOVE it!) because of the awesome skyscraper/cityscape paper in the collection.  When I saw this sketch, it ALL came together!

I decided to use my grid of photos in a portrait orientation, rather than landscape like I had on my original page.  What I enjoyed most about using this sketch is that it allowed me to use the large grid of photos, but still use so many fun embellishments because of their placement to each side.  I used a scrap of SS Scrap Basics notebook paper, with an EK Success notebook edge punch, and outlined it for definition.  I totally lifted the outlined notebook edge from Debbi Tehrani, I'm a big fan of her work.  The outlining gives the notebook edge such a pop off the page, don't you think?

The taxi cabs are from Shimelle's Go Now Go line, the flair from A Flair for Buttons on Etsy, and I cut the skyscrapers on the tag with a Poppystamps metal die.

I hope you come play along with us at Sketch N Scrap this month! There's a great prize, and you can't win if you don't play. Come join us, hope to see you there!
